European Alcohol Policy Conference
Theatre Pereformance

The conference Bridging the Gap opens with a premiere of the theater piece Alcoholiens by the theater company Wybrzezak from Gdansk, specially developed for this occasion.  This Polish theater company has attracted much domestic and international attention with its work with children and adolescents, confronting them with hard social issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, sexual behavior, school pestering and family violence.

Wybrzezak has been part of the international program Art for Social Change, run by the European Cultural Foundation (Amsterdam) and became, through this program, one of regional resource centers for participative arts.

In Warsaw, the Bridging the Gap conference will open on Wednesday 16 June at 19.00 hour with the Wybrzak performance in hotel Sofitel Victoria followed with a structured debate with the audience. The live performance probes the claims of alcohol advertising and will be performed in English, complemented with video segments and computer animations, also developed by Wybrzak collaborators.

In the autumn or 2004, Alcoholiens will tour for several months Polish high schools as a public health educational project.
